As for me and my family, we've gotten off to a great start. Our
daughter and son-in-law in northern Virginia had a beautiful baby girl
in January, our second granddaughter, Brenna Renee. We made a quick trip
out to see that everyone was doing fine, and then I'll have "Grammy"
duty in February for 7-10 days to help them through those first few
challenging weeks. Their other grandma will do the same. Oh how I
remember those first few months after a new baby arrives!!
I've got lots of things to discuss this time:
SPRING WALLHANGING WORKSHOP
We are planning a spring "tailgate" workshop around the time of the
OSU Spring Game in April. We will feature the OSU Log Cabin Block O
wallhanging. This continues to be one of my most popular OSU wall
hangings. More details will be in upcoming newsletters and on my
website.
COLUMBUS METROPOLITAN QUILT (CMQ) GUILD
BIENNIAL QUILT SHOW - CELEBRATE 2008
As a member of CMQ, I am eagerly looking forward to our upcoming
show, March 28-30 at the Whitehall Community Park, 402 N. Hamilton Rd,
Columbus (southeast of Port Columbus Airport and just north of E. Broad
St.) If you haven't attended before, you should make plans to go. You'll
be in for a real treat. Our show features beautiful quilts made by CMQ
members, a bargain-priced boutique, free sewing/quilting demonstrations,
vendors, exhibits, door prizes, children's activities, food, a silent
auction of "miniature" quilt items, quilt raffle, and even quilt
appraisals. There's definitely something for everyone. Admission is $5
(ages 6-12 is $2). For more information, directions, and a $1 off
coupon, visit: www.cmquilters.org.
I'm scheduled to do a machine appliqué demonstration on Friday, so I
hope to see you there! If you need to buy any OSU or OU kits, they will
be available at the Calico Cupboard booth in the vendor area (and you
can save shipping charges!).
OHIO UNIVERSITY APPLIQUÉ KITS
For Bobcat fans, I'm so excited to announce that my series of Ohio
University appliqué kits is also available through the Ohio University
Alumni Association's online store. To see the entire selection and to
order, go to
http://store.ohioalumni.org/s-95-sewing.aspx.
APPLIQUÉ KIT SEWING GUIDE
I have received several calls about Coats & Clark changing the
numbers on their spools that identify their thread colors. Alas, I'm
told that JoAnn stores are carrying the new thread series, but WalMart
still carries the old series, upon which my "Suggested Sewing Guide"
included in all of the appliqué kits is based. There is a
conversion table available on the Coats and Clark website to help determine thread color based on the new
numbering system. If you are experiencing problems determining the
appropriate thread color for a particular appliqué block, please go to
this page on the Coats and Clark website and click on "Color
Conversion Chart" towards the bottom of the page. Or you might want to find a WalMart in your area. I apologize for
this inconvenience. (No one at Coats & Clark asked my permission before
making this change!!!)
2008 BUCKEYE SEWING RETREAT
Anyone who has attended one of these retreats knows just how much
fun these weekend getaways are; a complete escape from all the demands
of your day-to-day life. To catch a glimpse of the fun we've had at
previous retreats, go to:
www.YoureSewSpecial.biz and click on Retreat on the main
menu. Planning for the 2008 will begin in a few weeks. If you have an
idea for a great location for our next retreat, please email me with
details. I received good feedback about our 2007 retreat location north
of Columbus just off Polaris Parkway, but I'm always open to new ideas.
CLASSES
The Sampler Quilt Classes are going well at
Calico Cupboard, 74 Oak
Meadow Dr. in Pataskala, just off Rt. 16. Owner Sherry Monfort also has
a wonderful selection of scarlet, gray, black and white print fabrics.
Perfect for those Buckeye-themed projects. For more information or to
register for a class, contact Calico Cupboard at 740-927-2636. For a

go to our Classes page.
WHERE TO FIND OUR LICENSED OSU KITS
Country Charm Fabrics, owned by Cindy Doggett, is a cozy
quilt shop housed in a former barn on her family's farm. It is located
at 1422 Twp. Rd. 593 near Ashland, OH. Take exit 186 east off of I-71,
go a couple miles on Rt. 250, then follow the signs to the shop.
Nautical Needle carries my full line of OSU appliqué
kits and youth sports patterns. Owner Jan Foard has moved her shop into
another building on their property, and has set up a "Buckeye corner".
She's got a great shop and a wonderful selection of fabrics and
supplies. So if you're in the area, stop in and check it out. Below is a complete listing of all Ohio shops
that carry our licensed OSU kits.
